VATS bypass modules???

Post by Rockrz »

Anybody ever use VATS bypass modules on their GM vehicles
to bypass the OE security system to solve no start situations?

I've used HP Tuners software to "relink VATS" but I'm still having
the occasional no start (won't turn over at all, but there's full power)

Without doing a bunch of high dollar diagnostics, my local GM dealer
seems to think I may need to replace my key cylinder due to a possible
embedded sensor that they think is what the problem is since my no
start issue is intermittant. (about a $500 deal at the dealer)

I found what seems to be a decent deal at
http://www.ByPasskit.com/product.aspx?prodid=PLJX#

Anybody ever used these products? If not, have you ever
seen anything comparable out there for late model S10 trucks?

I've been having an intermittant issue of my truck not starting for up to 10 minutes
at a time (full power, but won't turn over), and I thought there may be a failed
component somewhere causing VATS to malfunction, which is why I posted this thread to see if there
was a VATS alternative....

OK, so today I went down to the local GM dealer to pay them for diagnostic
time so they can trouble shoot, read BCM codes (there never has been any
ECM codes showing up on my scanner)

And...they said the starter was going out...and they'd be more than happy
to pop me a new starter on for $665.00 (includes $91 their diagnostic time)!

Obviously, I took care of this myself with a new, lifetime warranty starter
from Auto Zone for $169.00 (they seem to be pretty good, so what the hey)

If it's true that the starter was the problem, I'm thinking may be starter
solenoid was not functioning properly when it was hot (intermittently)
and would work again once it cooled down a little, or maybe it was the
starter motor itself, I dunno.

I do know that as I continue to drive the truck, I'll find out eventually
if this actually fixes my issue.

So far, yes. It seems that the issue was that the starter would work fine
until it got hot, and sometimes it would work OK even when hot.

I kept wondering why I was not having theft deterrent symptoms
even as others were telling me it sounded like VATS wasn't working right.

VATS is supposed to make the injectors quit working where the truck
will start, but die within seconds, but mine wouldn't turn over at all.

I'll know for sure as I continue to drive the truck if this fixed it.
I think it will. I'm pretty sure now that there's nothing wrong
with VATS or it's components.

Well, you know how it is with the slow economy and many GM dealers
closing....they probably gave me "special" pricing.

The service writer was using mind control on me I think...he came in there
nodding his head frequently as if to say "yes" and was saying it was
"only $665", and we can get this done right away...

Then, he got all ticked off when I told him "sorry man, I just can't
pay that kind of money for something I can easily do myself in 30 min"

I probably should report him to his boss, but I may need to go back
there someday so I don't want to make all of them mad at me.

It was very un-professional for him to get all mad cause I shot down
his plans to make some good commission on an easy job.

Usually when the VATS is bad, the engine will crank and hit but not stay running.

Well, I had a discussion going about this on the HP Tuners board and
that came up but nobody, including myself, really caught on that what
I was experiencing was not VATS related.

I think it was assumed that the VATS system was somehow causing
this by not being in sync.
But, now I know...
