Remote locks fob...Which one?

Post by Crewjoe »

Is it possible to know which fob to buy based of the little box under the dash? I do not have an old remote to go by. I understand there are several that could be possible. I will post a picture of the box. It has some info on the cover. It's a 2001 CC

I think you can narrow it down just by the year and model. Surf ebay for them?
There should be a thread around here with some key fob model numbers too IIRC.

There are 3 that it could be. I am hoping to buy the correct one the first time...lol I have done a lot of research, have the letter "codes" and the possible numbered codes they could be. I have searched the forums on here without much enough info to know which one.

Checking the keyless entry fob thread I see that mine, also a 2001 , had GM/UTA 15732803
Just checked my stash and see that I did indeed send them to another crew cab member long ago.

Thanks. There are a bunch on eBay and other sights. Going to buy a spare key blank or two also. Mine is either worn badly or ign switch, I can pull it out of ign in run and acc. Next figure out the dash back lighting...

I pulled the trigger and bought 2 new remotes for the 15732803 part number. The 2 most popular were about $7 apart in price... the 15732803 being the more expensive, which would suggest this is the one most people need. I couldn't get them to program. On the third try I noticed a difference in the chimes and remembered if the battery on truck was low or the remotes, they wouldn't program. I have it on the battery tender now. So now I have to figure out what is discharging the battery. It has only sat for a week. Could the instrument back light or lack of I should say, have anything to do with that? Thought someone said the dealer couldn't tell which RKE fob I needed without the old one either?

The dealer should be able to get you the part number by using your VIN.

I will check with them if I can't program it after the battery in the truck is charged fully. Hoping they can cut a key based on the VIN too... the only one I got is very worn and wouldn't want to use it to cut a new key from....I'll let you know how I make out on the remotes...Thx for the help guys!

They won't be able to cut a key from the VIN. Only from the punch out number on the key. If your key is that worn, a new lock cylinder and keys may be the answer.
I hope your fobs work out. I did a search on GMpartsdirect and came up with another number. I can definately see your confusion on part numbers. Hopefully the one that came with my truck is the same one you need.

Re: Remote locks fob...Which one?

I have done even more research tonight based on the part number of the reciever. 15042969. GMPartsCenter.net It was checking out to be for an Impala...but I pushed a little deeper and it could have been on a 2001 S10. When I pulled up the reciever, then clicked on related parts it gives Keyless remote 15732802 Transmitter. Then...whew...when I search that number on ebay, it seems to default to the TRANSMITTER 15042968 KOBLEAR1XT. So... that being said....not the ones I bought. With battery fully charged, again I tried to program the remotes after work today...no go...As for the key punch out. I recieved 1 after market key with the truck when I bought it. Cylinder and keys are only about $43, but then I have the door locks to contend with. Not a huge deal, just like the old days...but would like it keyed alike. I suppose I could take them to work and re key them if we have the correct tumblers. Any idea what the part number on the reciever that takes transmitter remotes with the 15732803 number?
Oh and the GMp\PartsCenter.net allows entering the VIN number to get the right parts..and those part numbers I don't have still come up... geeezz..lol

Are you able to confirm the truck goes into programming mode?

No, nothing. One set of instructions I printed out a couple months ago said it could take up to 30 seconds. The one set I printed off here says 15 seconds...I tried up to one minute holding the lock and unlock buttons...Once, I thought I heard my truck laughing at me...but wouldn't swear to it...lol

So the truck does the lock-unlock cycle to confirm it is in programming mode, right?
The the fob does not do the lock-unlock cycle?

That is correct... truck does do the lock cycling to signify it's in program mode, but... it never cycles to signify that it has programmed the fob, neither one of them. I bought 2.

Did you test the voltage of the button battery in the remote?

Yes 3.28 volts. I checked mostly because I was concerned they may have plastic over one side of the battery to prevent discharge in shipping like many electronic come with.

15042968 KOBLEAR1XT. This is the number even the GMPartsCenter.net defaulted to with the part number based on my receiver number. Then I guess we go from there. Hope my new headlights switch gets here soon. Hate not having dash lights. These trucks sure have a bunch of electrical gremlins...

Ok... here is the up date regarding the fobs...I bought the replacements for 15042968 KOBLEAR1XT. These worked perfectly! So, what that means...if we research the part number on the receiver, we should be able to buy the correct fob the first time, if we have no old remote to go by....or spend cash guessing...Live and learn. Now to find the post about the dash/radio display light issue...I fixed that too!

The wife's Malibu Maxx needs a new fob. Who / where would you recommend? (link) Ebay? Amazon? Local dealer?
