question on oil pressure

Post by wr70beh »

What is the normal operating specs for oil pressure? My crew cab is running about 60-65 when it is cold and doesn't drop much when it warms up. My old S-10 with the 4.3L would run this high when cold but once it got going it settled around 40. What's normal?

I don't know what the specs are but mine at normal operating temp is 25 at idle 45 at 2000. I don't put much faith in electronic gauges though. I am running 5-30 Mobile One for one oil change interval in the summer I ran 10-40 oil pressure was higher but I decided to go back to the recommended viscosity.

Oil Pressure,

I think if we were to consult the shop manual, it wouldn't give a difinitive answer.

Each 4.3 engine I've owned has had the pressure all over the scale!

I kinda right it off like I do with the fuel gauges.

FYI, I'm running 40psi at fully warmed at idle.

From the 2001 Helm's Manual:

42 kPa (6 psig) (minumum) at 1,000 rpm

125 kPa (18 psig) (minimum) at 2,000 rpm

166 kPa (24 psig) (minimum) at 4000 rpm
