Possible transfercase problem?

Post by Krash3910 »

Hey everyone, new member here just looking for some help. I own a 03 crew cab and have noticed a crackling sound when i take off. The noise happens between 1500-2000 rpms and is worse on a hard pull like a hill or a hard take off. While in neutral and rev up theres no noise. I havent notice any loss in power, just the annoying sound. Ive checked for loose parts underneath the truck to see if it was something vibrating but came up with nothing. I was told it could be my transfercase but i have no clue. Any suggestions will help. Thanks.

Torque converter shudder might be fixed with a good flush and filter change. If you have failing needle bearings or a cracked sunshell then a rebuild is iminent.

Could it be detonation? (Spark knock)

This could be a precursor to a plugged cat.

Ignition component checks would be first. Fuel injector cleaner. Maybe try higher octane fuel.

The article on the "plugged precat" would have some help diagnosing this.
