A/C compreesor clutch

Post by PATRICKH »

Driving home form the inlaws tonight, the A/C compressor started making a grinding sound. It quits when I turn the air off. I'm hoping it's just the clutch and not the entire compressor.

Question is: Is the clutch easy to replace? Any special tools needed?

Lots of good info in that thread.

If you read it I asked the same thing becuase mine was slipping at high RPMs. In my case I decided to leave it be till it dies, if it does. But from what I was told in the end it was better to replace the compressor.

After reading the thread, I decided to go ahead, suck it up, sell the firstborn and replace the whole compressor.

DONE!

Took my father in law and I about 2 hours to do it. He had the vacum pump and had a friend who had a tank for the freon. blowing nice and cold air now.

Really was not that bad of a job. 1 more repair learned.
