P0306 *solved (rust!)

Post by green02crew »

PO306 code came up. Engine sputters and runs rough, smells like rotten eggs. Only does this when its raining out. Thoughts? Newer plugs and wires. New cap, rotor and coil.

P0306 cylinder #6 misfire. I would pull plug and check for coolant leak and check fuel injector for that one, as well also check for mis-routed, arcing or burnt plug wire. Rotten eggs smell is usually a sign of cat going bad if under 8yr 80K should be warranty if over bite bullet for new or hollow out if you think you want to get away with it.

Thanks for the input! Followed the lead on plug #6. I decided to start by changing out the wires and checking the plugs. I had done a full tune-up approx 2 years ago, and not much for mileage. Solution found and easier than expected which is nice! Pulled the wires and this one was rotted from rust! Pulled it off the plug, and the boot pulled too easy. Wire was left behind sticking off the plug. Again, thank you North Country salt.

I think the rotten egg was the raw fuel dumping into the cat not allowing it to function properly... Hopefully.

Also needed a repaired brake line, again due to the rust. Now I have to figure out how to repair the forward bed mount as it is completely rotted off so the bed tilts up slightly when weight is applied to the rear. Does the list of repairs ever end??

Glad it was easily fixed.
