Steering upgrade

Post by Horsehammerr »

I read on TXZR2 a post about changing Idler arm and Pitman arms to, I think, '92 4x4 1ton parts. They say it tightens up the steering and eliminates the loose wandering feel that our frontends have. Is this true or just dreaming? :?: 8)

Miles has worked on that mod for years. If, you wheel crazy like he does and you want to keep throwing money into an IFS then it is an avenue to explore. I've seen him wheel and something will break on a regular basis under those conditions.

The problems I have heard in the one ton or three quarter ton parts swap is the clearance on the front diff. Both the pitman and idler must be swapped as they are longer. The idler may require a wedge to be built in order to correct the angle, as well as a rounded interface to keep it from rocking.

I will stick to the best aftermarket replacements I can find when the time comes. When I swapped to the ZQ8 steering box I installed a NAPA pitman arm.
