lowering? lifting?

Post by BikerBoomer »

i know this is an odd question, but have any of you lowered your trucks?

I know loads of s10 guys have, but what about crew cabs?

I have heard about cranking down the torsion bars, or something like that.
1. what are those?
2. how do they work?
3. how difficult is it to do?
4. is it both front and rear?
5. if not rear, how to lower rear?
6. bags?

lowering the truck would mean the suspension would make tire rubbing a possibility, i know that lowering will make the suspension stiffer and give it less travel overall, but with less available play (tire normal suspension still, to tire max verticle suspension fully compressed) im still worried about the play of a lowered suspension being more than the available play.

anythoughts on this.

please dont hate on the idea of being lowered, just some constructive critisim of work involved would be nice.

is it possible to
A. lower it a couple inch (2-3, maybe more)
B. keep it comfortable
C. inexpensive
D. able to tow stuff

thanks guys, im just thinking of ideas, im not set on lowering or lifting yet.

lifted crew cabs are super sweet looking, but im also all for the low look. im still undecided if i even want to mod anything, but if there is something cheap and easy i can do (tourqe something down) to lower it a couple inches i think it would be a fun winter project.

I don't know the lower limits, but I am going to say they are probably about the same as can be lifted and still aligned. An inch to inch and a half would probably be easy. Just follow the instructions for the t-bar crank, but turn the adjusting bolts out instead of in.
For the rear probably lowering blocks. 2" would be no problem. Ebay is full of them. All you need is blocks and the U-bolts.

Try a search for lowering and you will find some good threads:

Just remember that the ZR5 package is merely cosmetic. There are no differences mechanically or suspension wise from a regular CC.

Flares are not only for lifted trucks. The Firebird that Burt drove had flares too.
