I suppose , it could be done with a tall enough lift.

It is easier to take the cat back out in two pieces though. You won't want to put the stock muffler back on after you see the tiny hole through it anyhow.

Who makes the best cat-back system for our Crews?

Does anyone here have it?

How about cold air intake? How about MAF?

Duals, what a great idea. i do like the looks of duals.

It's pretty scarry to hear how restricted our stock exhaust really is.

I didn't do the duals yet. Still want to see some pics of how Justin did his. I'm looking at a Borla muff with 2.25 stainless tailpipes exiting like stock 2x4 S-10s but on both sides. The problem is the gas tank location & brake lines & my rear sway bar. Alot of planning to do here...I only want to do it once.

Jim, I'm sorry for not getting any pictures up. I have been very busy with school, holidays and most of all , my girlfriend...I will have some for you personally in 2 weeks when things settle down and I come back from the Dominican for vacation.... Besides the point, check this guys zr2!!! I am thinking about doing what he did with his exhaust tips. I think it will look really nice and clean having everything hidden behind the roll pan (hidden hitch and exhaust)

Roger's S-10 Zr2

Made that loooong addy a link-HJ ;)

Jim, I still think you may have trouble getting 2 1/4" pipe by especially with your sway bar. The custom exhaust guy who did mine was :x when I told him i wanted duals and I dont have a swaybar

The RR shock on the Zr2 is mounted forward. I think that it has more room , at least on the right side , for running the exhaust.

With both rear shocks mounted behind the axle and a full size spare, the space is pretty tight.

No rush good things can wait. I know I may need to go with 2" pipes & an installer w/ lots of patience.

That roll pan is Cool 8) kinda reminds me of those BMW X5s but they look more like a motorboat transom.

Thanks for all the input! I ordered the Gibson stainless single system for the crew-cab. I'll post the results after I install it.

Gibson stainless side-swept exhaust installed

Post by smaney1 »

Installed yesterday. I love it !!

I had dynomax ultraflow on my '96 Impala SS and did not like it... This one is not stock and not loud.

Gut reaction:

I like rumble -

I think I have slightly more power -

Power is at a slightly higher rev range (maybe up a few hundred RPM)

Email me for pictures or info.

BTW, don't believe anyone that tells you that you have to cut the original exhaust to get it out (the instructions and the muffler shop told me I needed to cut it) . Not true!! I did need to jack up the left side about 4-5" to put the old exhaust out from the front. I now have it hanging in my garage for future (owner) use.

Biggest pain in the arse was getting the exhaust out of the rubber hangers !! Otherwise it was smooth

Just out of curiosity how much did it run for the exhaust setup? I figure I should do mine while the bolts are fresh and not rusted on.

I purchased the Gibson Stainless version (614433) from www.truckperformance.com for 339.00 (free shipping to Michigan).

Everything's still ok but the tailpipe is a little close to the RR fender. I need to make a minor adjustment in rotation of the pipe or something. I'll submit a mod story with pics eventually. Quick report:

overall: quiet for a performance exhaust but definitely not stock

idle: nice rumble (this is why I bought the exhaust)

low rpm driving: nice rumble (same)

around 50-60 under load: some drone in cab is evident but not killer

65+ nice: noise is almost or completely as stock (nice for cruising)

Power: I detect a mild increase in willingness to rev (psych?) and I do believe there is a mild increase in power. Not confirmed with dyno. I understand performance exhausts can cause torque to drop at lower RPMS but I do not detect that with this setup.

Lastly, my post above mentioned jacking up the left side of the truck. That should read right side.
