Static Shock

Post by HenryJ »

This topic was raised in another thread and got me to thinking.

Quite a bit of the time when I slide out of my truck and reach to close the door...about a "Kazillion milijoules" of electricty are released from the nearest body part to the truck

I assume it is not my dazzling personality that causes this ;)

The interiors have so much plastic these days, and there is no metal on which to discharge the static before exiting the vehicle.

I wonder if the people who have been upgrading to the Envoy (chrome) inside door release handles have eliminated this?

Do you people who have Leather seats have the same problem? I'm wondering if treating the cloth seats with "Static Guard would help?

I realize that atmospheric conditons must play a part too. So it may be worse at times.

Funny you say this cause this truck I have not been shocked yet. Also my Trooper does not shock me either. But every vehicle I've had before has shocked me. I did add the plastic floor mats to the crew so I don't know if that helped/hurt. But my Trooper, I added rubber floor mats this year but last year with regular floor mats, no shocks either. About the only connection I can come up with is that I have steps on both trucks....... :?: :!: Who knows! ;)

So Con, cloth or leather?

I've got rubber floor mats too.

Leather in the Crew and cloth in the Trooper. Both do have heated seat options. Maybe it's the heated seats! lol

Maybe it's the shoes.......

No shocking here...and I have cloth interior and live in the most static electricity prone state in the country I think. I used to get shocked in my Camaro with cloth interior all the time. Maybe it's the different seat fabric in this truck that makes the difference (it's more canvas-like instead of velour-ish like the Camaro was)? :?:

I think that's why in the old days people used to hang straps that drag on the ground. I don't see that anymore. Probably could order them from JC Whitney or something.

Just make sure you discharge before fueling.

yes, esp off a truck. it would be a long strap. but you do still see them on motor homes
