no way!!! what are your plans with that camero???? thats funny. just 2 weeks ago, i almost bought a 78 myself. it had a 350 bored 40 over with heads holly manifold with a 750...headers...the works. real clean, new paint. ran good! the guy wanted 2500 for it!!! i figured that was a great deal. but i passed on it cuz it was t-tops and i didnt want to deal with it. i was going to drag it or round pound it. so what are you going to do with yours.. here's my dad's 84 that he drags.

Image

he has been slowly building it for about a year or so now.

i want to race something bad. i was going to buy a toyota and build a rock crawler, and still might....but i am thinking about racing these :D

Image

my s-10 would look sweat pulling on of these behind it....they are a sweet class. "ultra wheel super trucks" rangers, dokatas, and s-10's. they are great and even class to run. i want one real bad

and i want to race it here! IRWINDALE SPEEDWAY but actually they race all over so cal.

Well, I was originally gonna get a 2nd beater vehicle, but I just cringe at the thought of driving a front wheel drive on bicycle wheels!

Then a bud at work was talking that he is selling a Camaro that he can't get titled cause it ain't old enought. I found a company that can do title for 87 and older, so I grabbed it. I even told him, cause he a work bud. And he still gave me a great deal on it which was cool

The more I look at it, but better the car feels and it feels very solid. It's only got 76k on it, but been sitting for years cause of, well, it's a long story, but now it's possible to get a title for it and finally get in back on da road.

Right now, I am planning on keeping it stock. It's got a 305, 4brl quadrajet, 5 speed stick, so it should be plenty fun to drive. I know this was the dog years for Camaro, but I just love the 305's. I used to have a 78 Buick with a 305, and it even had the soft cam, but I loved it. After I replaced the cam, I drove it to 200k miles. The only reason I got rid of it was cause the frame rusted and broke.

This Camaro is mint shape underneath. It's just faded and surface rust on top, cause of cheap paint job and sitting in da sun. I can't wait to get it on the road.

:bounce:

I in da dog house agian though. LOL

ya, you can get a good 250hp out of 305 real easy. and if you blow it up, its a good reason to stick a 350 in it! hahaha. i like the body style of it but i dont like the 3rd gen practical design. i dont like the front end with only 1 a-arm. the front end sits so high off the ground. and BTW, if you want to take the oil pan off the motor, you have to jack up the motor and take the motor mounts out and jack it up some more, or the pan wont come out

That looks like a nice project...all there even down to the factory radio, a nice unmolested "Z". Hopefully it has the H.O. 305 in it. The SS Monte Carlos had them...sweet engines.

That looks like a great start! I can't believe how lucky we are here, the rust that has already makes me apreciate the desert

I may be selling a couple of my project/parts cars today. I had a guy call "out of the blue" wanting a Vega to build.

P.S. Those wheels are worth some $$$ . They are the ones my neighbor used on his S-10 excab (2wd). They would look good with some polishing :D

I did an rpo trace on some web site and I do come up with 3.23 axle ratio. It looks like the 7.5 10 bolt, but I haven't looked realy close. Can't wait to get it on the road. I picked up a K&N filter for it today. :)

well, i say you and the summit magazie will be best friends

lets see...lets add some headers and a nice dual exhaust set up with no catalitic whatevers....then lets put some camel hump heads and a holly 750 with a manifold, then a nice big cam! MSD, rockers and valves should hold up.

okay, now that we have a motor, time to drop 3.73 gears in with a posi unit. now that we got the gears and motor, we need the B&M sifter with a shift kit in the tranny....am i missing anything? :D

That's a nice looking project. There's a buddy of mine here in Phoenix that has an 86 IROC with a 406 and a 150 shot of nitrous. It dynoed at 400 HP on motor. Very nice car.

You'll have fun with that project...but you'll always be wanting more power. :D 8)

Dude, 250hp? Come on now. It is no secret that you can get a solid 350hp out of a 305, and still keep it streetable. A 400 crank will fit with a minimal amount of work, go with 6" rods -- we do know the advantages of a good rod/stroke ratio don't we? Check into some of the pontiac engines....if I am not mistaken, some of those came with 6" rods, you would need to ream the small end to fit the pins on the chevy, but it will save you lots of $$$. There used to be a place in Riverside CA that was selling fully prepped 305 long blocks (unassembled) with recon. 400 cranks, 5.7" rods, new hypereutectic pistons, etc., for less than $2K (this was in the early/mid '90s). But they netted a honest 349 horse out of what stared life as a 305 (and ended up as a 334).

3rd gen F-bodies make great sleepers. Everyone has one, and we all know that they are slow. Put in a good drivetrain, keep the valve overlap high (14 degrees would be my preference) so that it doesn't sound that mean, and you can upset alot of mustangs on the street.

well goodtimes....i know i know. but i said 250hp easy. if you check the books, the stock 305 says 155hp. i also said to keep the stock valves and what not for that 250hp. i know if you rebuild the whole motor you can get more. i was just talking about easy stuff

Wow, this is a real Chevy following here! Allot of Camaro dudes. I joined up at the camaroz28.com site and check'n it out there. But I think I get more info here  .

Seem people just say put a 350 in it, but everyone does that. I know there is no substitute for CI's, but it be nice to get allot out of a 305.

yes, paul alot of places wont even take 305's in for a trade. but what you can do is.... go ahead and add the intake manifold and carb, and other what nots, and go ahead and drive it for a while, then when you get the 350, you can take the same stuff that you modded out the 305 with, and put it on the 350. IMO i wouldnt waiste time and money building up a 305 when you will eventually got to a 350 anyways.

In all reality, Hobie is right. If you are eventually going to go to a 350 (and if you ever want to make more than 350 - 400 horses, I stronly suggest going to the 350, or even a big block if you really want the car go get up 8) ), I would not spend money on a 305. But, if you are after a street friendly "fun" car, 350hp worth of 334 (bored/stroked 305) would set you apart from the rest.

Building the 305 for a car that you plan on putting a 350 in is like putting a dana 30 under the front of a rock buggy....it just doesn't make sense. It is much cheaper to build it right the first time, than to build it wrong the first time and then right the second time.

Hey Paul...you might check out thirdgen.org too. Pretty good info there as well from what I've heard. LS1.com I think has a third gen section also where you might get some decent info, and there are some fairly popular regional sections to find other gearheads in your area.

I am fairly well-traveled on the F-Body message board scene. :D

Yea, I'll never understand the jeep is better thing. I'm on a couple club forums for the area, and one is just about all Jeeps and they are constantly breaking things, upgrading, etc, etc. I put on a susp lift but remain mainly stock and haven't had any problems. And allot of these Jeeps breaking are almost new with way less miles than me.

But all 4x4 rigs are good if built the right way. I'm not knock'n Jeeps, it just I can't stand the almighty than everyone else thing. Hey, I get where they can, and can haul allot more with me. :)

In some ways the Jeeps have advantages: Aftermarket support (you can mod almost every piece on it ) Lifts any size, SFA , shorter wheelbase, etc.

It is a choice, if it fits what you want it to do, go for it.

I'm happy with what I drive :D
