Electrical question on a 2000 Blazer

Post by YellowCrewCabber »

When you shut of the engine (key being in the removalble position) the little battery light in the dash stays on along with radio and the blower for the HVAC and all these stay on even after opening the drivers door. But if you manually turn the dome lights on all of those things go off whether the door is open or not. There has been an after market remote starter installed on this vehicle which I was told no longer works. I'm wagering Brule the guru has an aswer. Thank you for any help.

It does sound like something to do with the remote starter / alarm system. They are usually set to bypass the security and operate the HVAC for warm up or cool down of the interior. It may have tapped the retained accessory power, and the door switch?
I would research the installed remote starter and enable it as fully functional, or remove it completely.

Well :) turns out the owner would like me to disconnect it. So is this just a simple unplug what they plugged in and everythings back the way it was?? Never dealt with one of these things before. Interested on how this works...

Hard to say what you will have to undo. Many tap into the ignition, add bypass modules, and may also use the door switches.
You will just have to follow it all out and see what has been done. Try finding the manufacturers website. You may be able to download the installation manual.
