I got another crew...

Post by Blacknoma »

I'm a kool-aid drinking s-series guy... I have 3 of them and have been driving them for years... but I needed a tow rig for the Noma. I couldn't just get a regular truck, thats boring and not an s-series... so I started looking at 2.5 ton and 5 ton military trucks... got close to getting a 2.5 ton, and then really really close to getting a 1.25 ton wc63 from WWII... and then this came my way.

running driving truck

4x4

4-door

20,000 lb PTO winch

43" tires

and it's an s-series?!?!!?

yes please!

It currently has a Ford 460 (not original engine) on the original 5-speed with PTO. Divorced transfer case with an auxiliary flange out the rear locked with the rear yoke. There is a sticker on the dash that says to make sure the 4wd is not engaged before operating while the truck is on hydraulic lift/stands... what was used where the back for the truck was lifted into the air and the rear tires spun hanging as that rear flange drove some kind of apparatus... any ideas? I'm thinking it's a good place for a disc brake/e-brake. I don't worry about how much it can haul, but how much it can stop...

Future plans involve an IH IDI engine to replace that 460... but that will be years down the road... the 460 is working great as of now.

I have thought about that for a long long time (started really looking into military trucks because of the m109a2) but tent camping is just more fun for myself and the kids when they grow up. And it gives me an incentive to build the zr2 big enough to crawl on the back of it to haul... hahahaha

Oh, it's an 1983 International Harvester 1824 4x4 by the way...

Rollers on the camper so it will winch up on the flatbed :) I think the aussies call it a "tray back" :)
