Postby Built2Bend » Fri Nov 28, 2014 1:00 pm

I'm very happy with it and can't wait to start modding. A little about me my names Austin I live in ohio, I'm 19 , and I'm a Hyundai tech. here soon I hope to add some pictures of my truck but I'm not sure how so I'm working on that. Also sorry for my bad English and spelling.

Ya funny you mention that. The as is really screwed me. Within a week of buying it my engine started mixing coolant and oil. So I put in intake gaskets just for my starter and thermostat to go out next. And I fixed those also. But the best part was my ball joints or what was left of them.

It was so bad it also destroyed my spindle but I replaced all 4 ball joints and not many problems sence just little stuff.

Also I'm wondering where is the bust place here to put a build thread? I'd like to keep one place for all my mods and service. To help keep track thanks. And thanks for the warm welcome

A build thread would work in Modifications or NOS take your pick and we will follow. Did you go green after the stat? Waterpump ok?

No I dident make the switch to green coolant. but I'm really thinking about doing it there's a couple little things to take care of first tho. And my water pump seams fine no leaks, and my truck stays cool so I don't believe any thing if wrong with it.

Check your cap and keep the air out of the system. If you changed to new intake gaskets, chances are the material used is now compatible with the OAT coolant. You still have a waterpump that is prone to cavitating it though. No fix for the pump. The next generation V-8 engines solved it with a new pump design.
Many are living with OAT coolant, just like "Gremilins" heed the warnings: "Don't get it hot", "Don't give it air", and what ever you do "Don't feed it after midnight, no matter how much it begs!" ;) It will turn evil on you :panic:

Interesting i don't think I've herd of the water pumps being problems. Or do you mean they are only a problem if I switch to green. That's odd I was always told the 4.3l was just a SBC with out 2 cyl. So I guess part of me thinks I can take the assesories assembly off one of my derby cars and make it work then have choice of water pump but I guess they probly changed so much that it won't work. I doubt it would. I think I'm gonna buy that larger radiator and them change to green when I intall it.

If you look closely into the cause of the problems with Dex and the OAT based coolant , the waterpump design is a problem. These pumps are the same as older small blocks. The V-8 also had problems. Gasket material was one problem. Cooling system design another. Air needed to be eliminated. The cap on the radiator just does not work. Too easy to let air in there. Newer model fill at the expansion tank and no longer have a radiator cap. Water pump was another problem. Cavitation in the waterpump due to the viscosity and specific gravity of the OAT coolant. Cavitation is small bubbles forming on the surface. They "explode" or boil. This not only can cause damage to the surface , but also tends to form air bubbles in the coolant , a real problem for the OAT coolant. It is not as high on the list of problems, as the other two main failures, but it is a contributing factor. If you have to replace coolant again, consider a good flush and going green. If not just take good care of the orange and treat it right. Change it in three years and live happy :)

Ok I see what you mean. I'm gonna fix a few small problems right now my o2 sensor is throwing a code. And my left front wheel the abs is kicking in for no reason some times. And my steering is all over the place. But I have a new pitman and idler coming for that and then I'll give it an alignment. I also have the original left HUD and wheel speed sensor I removed when I replaced the spindle. I'll see if that fixes my abs. And after all that. In the next year I'm gonna do the larger radiator mod. Becoulse my temp jumps to like 230 if I'm pulling a small trailer. But I just turn the heat on and turn off ac and it comes back down to 210- 200.
