Crew Cabs are rare

Post by Mike »

 I Just put on over 1000 miles in Texas and Oklahoma this week and didn't see a single S10 Crew!

I drove from the DFW airport to Seguin TX. (south of Austin), then from Seguin to Oklahoma City OK. and back down to Dallas.

Not a single crew cab did I see. No wonder the aftermarket parts for our trucks are so hard to come by.

Are there any members on this site who live in Texas or Oklahoma?

I've only seen one on the road here in Phoenix. The dealership I bought from only had 4 on the lot, and it's a dealership with an inventory of over 2000 cars and trucks!

Around here maybe 5 or so. My local Chevy dealer has one 2003 on their lot, and just sold one a few months ago. The GMC dealer won't get one unless you ask to see one. Both dealerships told me that they will have a tough year selling all S-10 & Sonoma models. Since most buyers are going to wait to see a final design on the 2004's.

there aren't any at dealers in Albany, NY and at my dealer back in Rhode Island, they are in order.

maybe this means our trucks will hold value when we trade them in :D

this will be good for me because the sitcker was $28,000 and after swindeling the salesman and also saying my grandfather worked for GM so I could get a discount, I got the truck fully loaded for under $19,000

Central PA, lots of them here almost every shoping center parking lot I go to has one or ...two with mine. The dealer had 11 when I bought mine. The dealers now seem to have all yellow ones ZR5s loaded & can't move them.

Getting to be quite a few passing through here from time to time. Half a dozen pewter ones, 1 red, two white, a red ZR5 , and yellow ZR5 around most of the time. A green one just showed up at the local dealer (nice color).

No shells on any here yet, several with hard locking covers, and no mods , that I could see.

Here in pittsburgh area, there are alot of them. The dealer I bought mine from always seems to have 4 or more of them on the lot. I'm seeing them in color I didn't see before. Different reds, Dark blues, No blues like hobies, Tans, greens, yellow.

They seem to be pretty popular here.

Yes, I called GM a while back to get crew cab production numbers for the 2002 model year. They told me to call back in November sometime. Well, sometime will be monday. They should have something for me, or not. Will see. JH68

There are several around here. The other day some woman was driving a green S10 with a hood protector, vent visors, flaps and a topper.

Anyway I saw a blue S10 without leather and the ZR5 on a Ford dealers lot selling for $23,000. Good news for me because I wrote the check for $22,000 and thats after tax and I got the ZR5 package.

Rare crewcabs

Post by Lee »

I have seen several crew cabs around my area. I saw a white ZR-5 when I was leaving work tonite, and I've also seen a black ZR-5 running around town, a couple of white regulars, several pewter ones. I'm the only person that I've seen with the dark cherry red metallic, and I'm also the only person who's done any work to mine. 8)

I've only seen 2 on the road where I live near Manassas, VA and they were both women. One old lady and another mid aged woman

Vary rare indeed. All I see are Taco's, Explorer's, Fronteers, and Tundras.

But I like to be different anyhow.

I called in November for production numbers for the crew cab only they told me to call back in December. With the holidays here I forgot. I will call them today, Friday or Monday. I will get this done I would like to know to. You all think s-10 crew cabs are rare try to find a Toyota Tacoma Double Cab. I've seen 4. Three of the four was on the dealers lot and they was just moved to another dealer. JH68

Taco Double Cabs are a dime a dozen here in Phoenix. I normally see around 10-15 on my way to work every morning.

Me too on the Taco, but the extra 5k was another downer as well. Yeah the resale value will stay higher for a taco, but it's not worth it for the amount more you have to pay.

Just surfed GMBuypower.com and there are loads of Crews on the dealer's lots now! When I bought my Crew ZR5, there were like 3 ZR5 models in my area(and a handfull of LS Models). Now there are 50 ZR5s let alone LS Crews! I bet the dealers are selling avalanche well, so those who can't afford them, they push them to the s10 Crew. Esp. with the heavy rebates, new crews are under $20K which would be over 10k cheaper than an Avalanche. Too bad GM did not give the S10 Crew more dealer incentives sooner. My guess is that the Colorado shipping date will slip so they are trying to keep the momentum by pushing the S10 Crew more. Expect more "members" soon. :D

Cheers,

I read, or heard a rumor somewhere, that the dealer's initial allotment of Colorado's would be based on thier S-10 sales numbers.

Just a thought Hobie

Since it seems you don't mind driving a bit of distance maybe all of the members should try get together for the Carlisle Truck Nationals. http://www.carlisleproductions.com/Truck/truck.htm Since I know the owner of Carlisle Productions... I could see if he could give us a special area in the Truck Corral. It would be 8) cool 8) to have a bunch of Crews together.

Penn is not too far from me so I'll have to set some time off in June. That means I have to get my mods done by then.

Phoenix car show

Post by ExMoparMan »

My Mom called this morning from Phoenix and said at the car show there this weekend they had a crewcab on display and they were checking it out since they have not seen mine before they went out to AZ. Dont know if it was a GMC or S-10. Its nice that they are displaying one at a large auto show. :D

Carlisle is only about 4 hours from me, I may meet you guys, let me know. The incentives pushed me into my crew, so your right, the cash back is driving their sales. But I've never seen a single S-10 crew cab before I test drove mine, then again I wasn't looking. But their were 4 on the lot, 2 were ZR5, two were LS. I'm trying to save monthly commitment, so I did without the ZR5, now I regret it after seeing some of your pics. Toyota beats Chevy on all products except two, the Cavalier (same car) and trucks. I've heard horror stories of Tacos and Chrysler. My neighbor has a Ram king cab, with 2500 miles, he pulled into his driveway without his rear axle. He got a new one since they considered it totalled, I would have told them to refund my money and bought a real truck.

The casino where I work in Indiana has one other employee that has one. He parked next to mine and I had to do a double take to see which one was mine.

Guess that means I need to get busy and do some more mods to mine huh?

Anyone see any modded crew cabs running around?
Wheels and shells don't count. I see one running around here with "Dubs", but none lifted, hooded, or things like that.
I have only seen one "modified" crew cab and I had to travel to Moab to meet him.

I have only seen 2 modded CCs. The one guy is a member on here but only has a few posts. He lives about 5 to 10 miles from my house. We passed eachother one day in the summer and acknowledged eachother, but haven't seen it around since. The other one I saw was a yellow ZR5 with a BL and 31s back in 2005. I see a few crew cabs now and again, but none of them ever have any modification to them.

I probably see at least half a dozen stock crew cabs around here on any given day now.
The majority of the drivers are still AARP members, but I have seen a couple drivers that appeared younger. No "kids" driving them here though.

There is one around the Baltimore, MD area that I see every once in a while, They pulled the bed off and built a flat bed for it. It has an engine crane on the right rear side and looks to have some kind of bolt in engine stand that gets removed. Pretty neat looking but have never had a chance to speak with them.

I've got the only one in town. But one day at WM I came out to find the twin parked next to me (he was from AZ if I remember right). Another time, I came out to find the reg. cab and the ext. cab next to me in same color though not the same year (that was in Las Cruces an hour from home).

There is another ZR5 about a mile and a half away from my house. A few crew cabs driving around the area also.

I have seen a couple crew cabs around my area. But I do not see them every day. Probably see about 2-3 a week. I have only seen 1 other CC with the ZR-5 Appearance package though....Those you dont see every day. Feels good to own one :). I have had people come up to me and question me on my truck because they have not seen it before with that package.

There's still a bunch on the road around here. I seem to pass atleast three or four on a regular basis heading to/from work, and numerous other ones just trolling around town. However, none of them seem to get on here. :?:

Another CC, and it's new owner!

Post by davejb851 »

Well folks, I took the plunge, and I am looking forward to it being a good one. I purchased a pristine 2002 CC with just over 100k on the odometer.

In a previous life I had a S-15 standard cab which was great fun, but used mostly on the road.
This little beauty will be used to transport my family, occasionally used for Boy Scouts and camping trips. And trips to the lumber yard.

I have noticed recently that many people are realizing the intelligence of four doors, and are buying lots of trucks with crew cabs.

Let the fun begin!

Welcome! Sounds like you have the right attitude! I mean about your truck. Liking it to begin with helps quite a bit.

What options does it have? The RPO code list is a great place to figure out what you really have.

The 100k mark may require quite a list of maintenance items. It will be interesting to see where you are in that process.
Enjoy the truck and I am very happy you found this resource so quickly.
Lots of experience and happy owners here.

Yeah.....about maintenance items...coming from a 97 Land Rover Discovery maintenance isn't something I am looking towards.......just yet!
Not that I' the gambling sort, but I bought the truck over the internet, sight and seat time unseen.
Ok, so I am the gambling sort. I spoke to the previous owner who mentioned about highway miles, new brakes and shocks at all the corners....and he had an honest voice! Ahem?
I've got a garage full of Snap-On tools, lots of time on my hands, and a great mechanic up the street....who I hope I don't need to see soon. After all he has all that money from the Land Rover!!

I just read my original post...should have been 160,000 miles. I find that as I get older I loose hair, and the ability to type well........thank goodness for both spellchecker, and that red line that shows up on this forum!

Looks really good for a NE rig. I hope that we can walk you through any questions but, with a garage full of "Snap On" tools, I don't think you will be needing much assistance unless you stole them.

I WAS a mechanic in a previous life....that was well before valves and sensors, and pollution controls. You know, when you could stand inside the engine bay and still changed the spark plugs without removing half the engine!
I still do lots of my own work, but with the complexity of engine management systems these days you need a 'doctorate' in wallet science to be sure about anything.

"Excuse me, Doctor Mechanic, but my check engine light came on 2,000 miles ago, will that be a problem?"

Speaking of normal maintainance. I just changed plugs, cap, rotor, fuel filter, and cleaned the throttle body yesterday. Reed, I thought some of your flock were circling when i started the truck an it wouldn't idle down. I loosened the butterfly screws and everything slid into the right place. Today I replaced the double sided tape on my vent visors because they had come loose on the ends. The toughest part was getting the old tape off.

Speaking for myself here but, cleaning the TB apparently takes a mild PCM relearn process. After I installed a battery cut off switch on my CC for dormant periods, it wouldn't idle when fired up. HenryJ didn't have a problem under similar circumstances. He kept his TB cleaner and his didn't need the relearn procedure.

I stumbled over this when I replaced a starter in a heep. I had no idle after the install and the heep version of HenryJ told me what to do. I cleaned the tb and all was good.

When ever I clear a code via battery disco. I have an idle issue for a couple of good slow even throttle revs. I usually just ease off and drive it and it cures itself. 8)
