Anti knock sensor

Post by Jongo88 »

Does anyone know where the anti knock sensor is on a 2002 cc??
Is it in a water jacket?

It is shown to be on the top of the engine behind the distributor on the left side. Are you having problems?
Pinging or detonation is usually related to something else. The timing can only retard so far.
I have seen a couple bad KS but it is far from common. The sensors can develop a coolant leak on older models. I have only had one fail for unknown reasons and that was a very long time ago on a fleet vehicle. I am not sure it was even a Chevrolet.

What exactly was it? Check the connections first. Clear the code and see if it returns. In the mean time add your scheduled dose of injector cleaner, change the fuel filter if needed and see if the code returns.

The code has been cleared. Everything like fuel filter and stuff is new. Seafome every 6th tank. Plugs wires cap and rotor in the last 3 monts. Only have 67,ooo miles now.
Was just driving along and the ses light came on. Lost some power on take off for one take off.lol. Then turend into Advance and had it checked. His scanner said knock sensor. I had him clear it. It seems to be ok. I drove it home from there about 2 miles then 20 miles to work. No light yet.

:fingers crossed:
If it returns and you hear any audible ping, it may be worth having the muffler shop check the cat/precat for back pressure and a possible restriction/plugging.

Any chance you got a cheap tank of gas that was bad?

Many failure require multiples before illuminating the MIL. Keep your fingers crossed for a few weeks.

There may be no inexpensive gas but there certainly are places whose gas can be of a lesser quality. I pretty much stick with 89 octane which seems to run better in my trucks over 87 (this is both in my Tahoe and Crew) and I have found a station that still is ethanol free which seems to help as well.

I have always ran 87 with no problems so far. We have no ethanol free gas down here in Florida...

Search on E10 gas and see how many problems are cropping up because of it. One tank with too much alcohol could certainly cause a drive ability problem ( not saying that is definitely your problem) but it is possible.

The thing is that there is no problems. It runs perfict. The ses light just came on. When that happens there is eather a problem or a bad sensor. So when the scanner came up with a knock sensor that to me means it is bad. I think it's just a matter of time before it comes back on. Bad gas will make run bad not make a knock sensor send a code that its bad.
That's just me thinking....

Yea without knowing exactly which code they cleared it's hard to tell.
here is a list of possible codes for Knock sensor. I am not sure if we have one or two so I listed them all.

P0325 Knock Sensor 1 Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 or Single Sensor)

P0326 Knock Sensor 1 Circuit Range/Performance (Bank 1 or Single Sensor)

P0327 Knock Sensor 1 Circuit Low Input (Bank 1 or Single Sensor)

P0328 Knock Sensor 1 Circuit High Input (Bank 1 or Single Sensor)

P0329 Knock Sensor 1 Circuit Intermittent (Bank 1 or Single Sensor)

P0330 Knock Sensor 2 Circuit Malfunction (Bank 2)

P0331 Knock Sensor 2 Circuit Range/Performance (Bank 2)

P0332 Knock Sensor 2 Circuit Low Input (Bank 2)

P0333 Knock Sensor 2 Circuit High Input (Bank 2)

P0334 Knock Sensor 2 Circuit Intermittent (Bank 2)

If it comes on again make sure they tell you which code came up or invest in a ScanGaugeII, well worth the money for not only checking codes but keeping track of lots of other engine parameters.

I would check the weatherpak conector to see if it is fully seated and locked as well as for corrosion at the terminals, if they look good I would say it's time to replace the sensor.

I replaced the sensor today.. What a PITA that was. I hope none of you have to change it.
You have to remove the dissy and the fuel lines and it is still hard. I got it though. Time will tell if it works.

The gains generally not worth the extra .10 to .20 a gallon that you have to pay. In my truck, I didn't see enough gains to make it worth it for me.
