HVAC Control Hisses

Post by okaussie »

I have a 2002 CC. Has 135K miles on it. No real problems. Now I have a hissing sound in my cab only when the AC is on. When I switch to vent, defrost, etc, the problem goes away. It only happens in any of the three AC positions. It also decreases in sound when I accelerate then gets louder when I stop accelerating.

I have read the other posts here regarding the Transfer Case switch. I have had no problems with switching into and out of 4WD.

This problem just started today. Do I have a problem with the HVAC Control or is it in the Transfer Case switch on the transfer case.

TIA

It sounds like a loose vaccum connection on the back of the function knob.

When I get home from work on Monday, I will take it apart and see what I find.

Never had very many problems with my truck and pretty happy with it. Just had new tires, all the fluids and filters changed and the thing just keeps on truckin.

Let you all know what I found.

TIA

How do I get the dash apart to get to the HVAC controls?

It looks like that the rim that covers the controls is part of an assembly that goes over the entire dash, above the steering wheel clear to the drivers door.

TIA

That is what I thought. The next question in the quest for hissing is,

How do I remove this to get to the controls?

How many screws, where, clips, etc.

I have a Haynes repair manual and nowhere does it give instructions on how to successfully remove this part.

TIA

The exact steps including the number of clips and screws is not something we are going to be able to help you with here. Not even the factory Helm's manual goes that far into detail.
If you are uncomfortable with diving into this sort of dis-assembly, I would suggest seeking help from a local that will let you watch the process.
